Stripping and Reshoring: Release Requires Evidence
Concrete Workers · 7 minutes · English · Continental Environmental Training
Key message: Prevent premature removal of structural supports.
Know the hazard
Team: Concrete Workers. Topic: Temporary Works.
Removing forms can look like cleanup after the important work is done. It is still structural work. Concrete strength, construction loads, support sequence, and reshoring arrangements determine whether the structure can carry what comes next. The appearance of the slab or the number of days on a calendar does not provide the whole answer. Do not start pulling supports because another floor is waiting for the same equipment.
Use the controls
Use the approved stripping and reshoring procedure and obtain the required authorization. Responsible personnel must establish that removal conditions are met for this structure. Workers should understand the sequence, exclusion areas, handling method, and how adjacent trades are protected. Do not remove a single shore to make space for a cart or assume another row can absorb the load. If markings, drawings, or instructions conflict, stop until the discrepancy is resolved.
Work within the safe plan
Control falling materials and changing access as forms come down. Keep personnel out of the drop and instability zones, and do not work beneath partially released components. Report unexpected deflection, cracking, movement, or a support that does not behave as planned. After the operation, verify reshoring and barriers match the approved arrangement before other crews load or enter the area. The job is complete only when the remaining structure and temporary supports are ready for the next activity, not when the last panel reaches the stack.
Discuss with the crew
A carpenter removes a shore to pass a material cart before stripping approval is issued.
Question: Why is that unacceptable?
Answer guidance: Even one removal changes the support arrangement and requires the approved process.
Question: Can elapsed time alone establish safe stripping?
Answer guidance: No. Use required strength information and approved structural conditions.
Prepare, act, and follow up
Leader preparation: Bring the stripping authorization and reshoring plan.
Put it into practice: Locate the authorization and identify which area and sequence it actually covers.
Supervisor follow-up: Check that reshoring remains protected from later access and storage changes.
